Authority and Application

  • These range rules are a policy of the Abbotsford Fish & Game Club
  • Users of the facility must sign the range log at the main entrance, in doing so, agrees to abide by the rules posted
  • General rules apply to all ranges but are specific to any specific rules, as posted for each specific range, which overriding the provisions of the general rules.
  • In the case of any dispute, the decision of the Range Safety Officer shall be final.

     

Range Safety

  • Firearms shall be discharged on designated ranges only.
  • When a range is being used and there is no Range Officer or Range Safety Officer present the first person that arrives at the range is the Acting Range Safety Officer.
  • All uncased firearms carried to and from the ranges shall be empty of ammunition and be carried with actions open.
  • Shooters who are finished firing shall ensure the firearm is unloaded and the action open, or proved safe and re-holstered before leaving the firing line.
  • No person shall point the muzzle of any firearm toward anyone at any time.
  • Anyone who notices an unsafe condition at any time shall call a cease-fire and immediately notify the Range Safety Officer or Acting Range Officer.
  • Everyone on all ranges should wear ear and eye protection devices. The Club will not be responsible for any injuries.
  • All junior members (individuals less than 18 years old) using the Club ranges shall be supervised by an adult.
  • NO SMOKING is permitted while on the firing line.
  • ALCOHOLIC beverages are Prohibited on all ranges at any time. Persons whose behavior exhibits the influence of ALCOHOL or DRUGS will not be permitted on any range.
  • After firing, a firearm shall be placed on the bench or rack with the action open and empty, Or Proved Safe and re-holstered
  • Incendiary ammunition is prohibited.
  • Only designated firearms may be shot on specific ranges as posted.
  • Archery has use of the 3D range from Dawn until 0900 (9:00am) Saturdays, Sundays and all open weekdays (holidays etc), NO FIREARMS are permitted during these times. The 3D range wraps all around the mountain, including in front of the firearm firing line.

Rules of Operation

  • A Range Officer shall enforce these Range Rules or a Safety Officer appointed for a particular event, or an Acting Safety Officer designated by these rules.
  • A Range Officer, Range Safety Officer, or Acting Safety Officer who neglects or refuses to enforce these rules may be liable for a breach of these rules and a contravention of the by-laws.
  • An Acting Safety Officer shall enforce these rules while acting in that capacity.
  • An Acting Safety Officer may appoint another person using the range as Acting Safety Officer when the first Acting Safety Officer leaves or wishes to appoint a more qualified person.
  • If a range is used without an Acting Safety Officer to enforce these Rules all persons using the range may be deemed to be liable for a breach of these rules and a contravention of the by-laws.
  • Vehicle parking is prohibited except in designated areas at the range. No parking shall obstruct the use of roads and gates.
  • No Vehicle is permitted on range without the permission of the President or Caretaker.
  • Every person shall help keep the property clean by putting garbage and refuse in garbage barrels.
  • All empty brass cases/shotgun hulls shall be picked up and taken home or put in the approiate barrels provided.
  • Dogs are NOT permitted on the ranges.
  • All shooters shall have a valid Membership Card Visible or handy for inspection. Exception is made for those shooting in invitational matches. Membership Cards are not transferable.
  • Shooting at Glass objects is prohibited.
  • Shooting at Bowling Pins closer than 25 yards with a rifle and 7 yards with a pistol is prohibited.
  • Shooting at metal objects closer than 50 yards with a rifle and 10 yards with a pistol is prohibited.
  • In the event of a misfire, the shooter shall remain in position with the firearm pointed downrange. The firearms action shall not be opened until after a waiting period of at least 60 seconds.
  • There shall be no firing before 1000 hours (10:00 AM) on weekends and on open weekdays (holidays etc). All firing must cease at 9:30pm
  • All targets shall be removed from the range upon completion of shooting.
  • Shooters must stand back from the firing line after firing to indicate to the Range Officer that a cease-fire can be called to check targets.
  • Targets shall be placed on target backboards, not on the support posts or frames.
  • Only the Executive shall authorize special activities or events and range closures.
  • When there is a special shooting event at a range, that range is closed for all other shooting activities until the event is over.
  • The doors to the range and clubhouse shall be closed upon entering and exiting at all times.
  • Users of the ranges will return target stands and uprights to their appropriate locations. Failure to do so will the first time receive a warning and the second time have your membership removed for the duration of the year. Clean up after yourselves please.
