Follow the Fundamental Four Safety Rules

  1. Always assume every firearm is loaded
  2. Do not point the muzzle at anything you aren't willing to destroy
  3. 3. Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you've made a conscious decision to shoot
  4. 4. Know your target and what's behind it

General Range Safety Rules
Range Officer: The first Member to arrive is deemed to be the Acting Range Officer. This may be handed over to a certified Range Officer or other Member of AFGC at any time. A certified Range Officer may assume these duties at their discretion.
All persons on the range MUST wear Eye Protection and Ear Protection. This includes spectators and non-shooting guests.

Red Light/Flag Range is HOT

  • DO NOT GO FORWARD OF THE FIRING LINE
  • Shooting may commence
  • Guns may be packed/unpacked ONLY during Hot Range

Green Light/Flag Range is SAFE

  • DO NOT HANDLE FIREARMS
  • Guns left on benches or racks during cease fire must be P.R.O.V.E 'd safe and actions open.
  • Safe to go forward of the firing line.
  • Magazines may be loaded during cease fire as long as firearms are not handled Do NOT load magazines at benches with firearms on them.

It is every shooters responsibility to know what is going on around them and to ensure all others on the line know as well. Always double check and confirm that EVERYONE is prepared for firing to commence or for a cease fire

 

General Range Rules

  • Range Door Codes are not to be given out to non members. Doing so may result in loss of membership.
  • Firearms shall be discharged on designated ranges only.
  • All uncased firearms carried to and from the ranges shall be empty of ammunition and be carried with actions open. Uncased firearms Must Not be brought into the range sheds during a cease-fire.
  • Anyone who notices an unsafe condition at any time shall call a cease-fire and immediately notify the Range Safety Officer or Acting Range Officer.
  • Shooters shall stand back from the firing line after firing to indicate to the Range Officer that a cease-fire can be called to check targets.
  • All junior members (individuals less than 18 years old) using the Club's ranges shall be supervised by an adult.
  • Target backers are NOT to be shot with Shotguns, doing so may result in loss of membership. Members must provide their own Targets and Backers for all shotgun shooting.
  • Shooting of range markers, structures or barriers on purpose may result in loss of membership. This includes the trap houses and protective berms. These berms are not to be used to support targets.

 

Steel Targets:

    • Pistol targets must be at least 10m from firing line
    • .22 Rimfire targets must be at least 10m from firing line (both rifle and pistol)
    • Rifle targets must be at least 50m from firing line
  • Targets shall be placed on target backboards, not on the support posts or frames.
  • Targets, Target frames and bases must be returned to shooting bays/storage areas when done. Member supplied targets must be removed from club property when member leaves. Failure to do so will result in a warning the first time and on a second offense membership may be revoked for up to one year.
  • NO SMOKING is permitted while on the range proper. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas.
  • ALCOHOLIC beverages are Prohibited on all ranges without prior authorization. Persons whose behavior exhibits the influence of ALCOHOL or DRUGS will not be permitted on any range.
  • ALL casings/hulls MUST be cleaned up and disposed of properly. This includes .22's
  • Archery has use of the 3D range from Dawn to 0800 (8:00am) on Normal Weekdays and from Dawn to 0900 (9:00am) Saturdays, Sundays and all open Holidays. NO FIREARMS are permitted to be used during these times without prior authorization. The 3D range wraps all around the mountain, including in front of the firearm firing line.
  • There shall be no firing before 1000 hours (10:00 AM) on weekends or holidays and 0900 hours (9:00am) on open weekdays. Firing can continue until 2200 hours (10:00pm) or Dusk whichever is later. The executive may make special allowances to these rules for special events and or rentals.

 

Rules of Operation

  • A Range Officer or an Acting Range Officer, as designated by these rules, shall enforce these Range Rules.
  • A Range Officer or Acting Range Officer who neglects or refuses to enforce these rules may be liable for a breach of these rules and a contravention of the by-laws.
  • Vehicle parking is prohibited except in designated areas at the range. No parking shall obstruct the use of roads and gates.
  • No Vehicle is permitted on range without the permission of the Range Officer and/or with prior approval by the executive.
  • Every person shall help keep the property clean by putting garbage and refuse in garbage barrels. Leave the range cleaner than when you arrived
  • Dogs are NOT permitted on the ranges.
  • All shooters shall have a valid Membership Card Visible or handy for inspection. Exception is made for those shooting in invitational matches, special events and Member guests. Membership Cards are not transferable.
  • Only the Executive shall authorize special activities or events and range closures.
  • When there is a special shooting event at a range, that range is closed for all other shooting activities until the event is over.
  • The doors to the range and clubhouse shall be closed upon entering and exiting at all times.
